To call the sound Townsend and co. achieve on this record ‘unique’ would simply not be doing it justice. It manages to encompass such a broad range of styles and influences in the space of one album and even in each individual song that I think classing it as simply metal would be an insult, I can only describe the sound by using the word ‘music’ in it’s most broad and all encompassing context.
Llamar al sonido que Townsend y Cía. han logrado en este disco como “único” simplemente no le haría justicia. Logran abarcar un rango tan amplio de estilos e influencias en el espacio de un álbum e incluso en cada canción individual que pienso que clasificarlo como simplemente metal sería un insulto. Sólo puedo describir el sonido usando la palabra “música” en su más amplio contexto.

…inventive metal riffs, unforgettable melodies, ingenious use of counterpoint, off-the-wall meters, dramatic vocals, and audacious eclecticism, and this album is probably the band’s most musically diverse.
..riffs metálicos inventivos, melodías inolvidables, uso ingenioso del contrapunto, métricas poco comunes, vocalizaciones dramáticas, eclecticismo audaz y este álbum es probablemente el más musicalmente diverso de la banda.

Excellent heavy/hard-prog band from Sweden whose music is strongly influenced by King Crimson, with outstanding mellotron and cello passages. Dark moods are present all the time in their music where the distorted bass and raw drums are another trademark. Their live performances are outrageous.
Excelente banda de heavy/hard-prog desde Suecia cuya música está fuertemente influenciada por King Crimson, con sobresalientes pasajes de mellotron y cellos. Atmósferas oscuras están todo el tiempo presentes en su música, en donde bajos distorsionados y baterías crudas son otra marca de fábrica. Sus presentaciones en vivo son increíbles.

Sacred Reich – The American Way (1990) [Thrash Metal] February 26, 2006

Dark, troubling and often highly sociopolitical, Reich has a lot to say on this solid effort. Addressing such topics as environmental destruction (“Crimes Against Humanity”) and the horrors of apartheid in South Africa (“State of Emergency”), The American Way makes us glad that lead singer/bassist Phil Rind had become fairly easy to understand.
Oscuros, conflictivos y a menudo altamente sociopolíticos, los Reich tienen mucho que decir en este sólido lanzamiento. Abarcando tópicos tales como la destrucción ambiental (“Crimes Against Humanity”) y los horrores del apartheid en Sudáfrica (“State of Emergency”), en The American Way nos complace saber que el vocalista líder y bajista Phil Rind se ha vuelto bastante fácil de entender.

This album is a feast for fans of technical excellence. The music is a mix of Pain of Salvation, Dream Theater and many Neo Prog Metal bands … but Pagan’s Mind manage to create their own recognizable style. The guitar work is stunningly accurate and perfectly in sync with the rhythm group, and the vocals are much better than the genre average.
Este álbum es un festín para los fans de la excelencia técnica. La música es una mezcla de Pain Of Salvation, Dream Theater y muchas bandas de Neo-Prog Metal… pero Pagan’s Mind logra crear su propio estilo reconocible. El trabajo de la guitarra es sorprendentemente preciso y perfectamente en sincronía con la sección rítmica, y las voces son mucho mejores que el promedio del género.

Bassist Omar Rodriguez and drummer Cedric Bixler are well known as members of the acclaimed, and now defunct band, AT THE DRIVE-IN, as well as powerhouse THE MARS VOLTA. Rooted within the realm of Dub reggae pioneers like Lee Perry and the Dr. Alimantado, DE FACTO also tampered in electronica, salsa and jazz which gave their sound a distinct, timeless quality. “Spirit Of Live” has been recorded in the famed Elysee Montmartre in Paris during the “Far Off Grace”-tour in February 2000. They have found a healthy mixture of “Colour Temple” and “The God Thing”, while the last album “Far Off Grace”, of course, has the biggest part of the pie. For true VANDEN PLAS-fans essential and a must!
“Spirit Of Live” ha sido grabado en el famoso Elysee Montmartre in Paris durante la gira “Far Off Grace” en Febrero del 2000. The input of an additional member has contributed to this amazing powerful album. The mastery of melodies, dynamics, heaviness, technics, compositions and solos, shines out. A fantastic come out from Sweden’s premier progressive metal band: Andromeda.
Andromeda ha tenido éxito una vez más con el dominio técnico de sus instrumentos musicales. Esta vez Andromeda ha reclutado un quinto miembro. El aporte de este miembro adicional ha contribuido a lograr este álbum sorprendentemente poderoso. With this release, bandmates Neal Morse of Spock’s Beard, Roine Stolt of the Flower Kings, Pete Trewavas of Marillion, and (Mike) Portnoy (of Dream Theater) continue to push this forgotten genre into newfangled directions. As expected, there is a surfeit of technical wizardry, but there is also an increased focus on rich harmonies, memorable melodies, and recondite lyrics.
Con este disco, los miembros del proyecto, Neal Morse de Spock’s Beard, Roine Stolt de los Flower Kings, Pete Trewavas de Marillion, y (Mike) Portnoy (de Dream Theater) continuan empujando a este género olvidado hacia nuevas direcciones. Como es de esperarse, hay un despliegue de virtuosismmo, pero igualmente hay un mayor enfoque hacia nuevas armonías, melodías memorables y letras recónditas.
