Rooted within the realm of Dub reggae pioneers like Lee Perry and the Dr. Alimantado, DE FACTO also tampered in electronica, salsa and jazz which gave their sound a distinct, timeless quality. Critically-acclaimed, the record is a fascinating document of the musical alter-egos of some of the most influential players in post-punk/alternative rock.

Released in 1985, Song X was Pat Metheny’s first recording for the Geffen label. As Metheny explains in his liner notes, the CD medium at the time was limited to about 48 minutes, and the choices for the final package were made according to those limitations. Twenty years later, CDs held 80 minutes of music, and Metheny not only remastered and remixed the entire disc, he also tacked on six tracks from the original sessions to the beginning of the disc, making the Twentieth Anniversary Edition an almost entirely different offering that becomes revelatory in its new context.

Selection Sixteen alternates what sounds like outtakes from his last LP (Music Is Rotted One Note) — that is, short organic fusion cast-offs — with a set of hard-edged acid tracks, most of which chart the hyperkinetic drum’n'bass programming that fans expect. The album comes off surprisingly well, given both the glut of Squarepusher material in 1999, and the fact that Jenkinson is mixing’n'matching crazed drill’n'bass and more stately jazz-fusion, with little regard for album flow.
Selection Sixteen alterna lo que suena como tomas extras de su último LP (Music Is Rotted One Note) — es decir, cortos desechos orgánicos de fusion — con un conjunto de duras pistas ácidas, la mayoría de las cuales siguen muy de cerca la hiperquinética programación drum’n'bass que los fans esperan. Marcus Miller – Silver Rain (2005) [Modern Jazz Bass] February 20, 2006

Marcus Miller is foremost known as a Grammy-winning bass player, but as he proves on Silver Rain, Miller is equally formidable as an arranger. He is able to take an impossibly diverse set of songs and construct an album with real cohesion and flow. There is a lot happening on this album, as multi-instrumentalist Miller swaps instruments, moods and musicians from tune to tune. The result is an extremely enjoyable album and an apt platform for Miller’s many, many talents.
Marcus Miller es principalmente conocido como un bajista ganador del Grammy, pero como lo prueba en Silver Rain, Miller es igualmente formidable como arreglista. El mismo es capaz de tomar un conjunto imposiblemente diverso de canciones y construir un álbum con verdadera cohesión y fluidez. Muchas cosas pasan en este disco, como multi-instrumentista, Miller cambia de instrumentos, emociones y músicos de canción en canción. Los resultados son extremadamente disfrutables y son una plataforma apta para los muchos, muchos talentos de Miller.

Niacin features John Novello on Hammond B3 organ & keyboards, Billy Sheehan on bass and Dennis Chambers on drums. All are seriously accomplished musicians and play everything from rock, funk, jazz, fusion, progressive and beyond. They are an instrumental group, so the focus is obviously on interesting composition and inspired improvisation.
Niacin cuenta con John Novello en el órgano Hammond B3 y teclados, Billy Sheehan en el bajo y Dennis Chambers en la batería. Todos son músicos realizados y tocan de todo, desde rock, funk, jazz, fusión, progresivo y más. Son una banda instrumental, por lo que el enfoque está obviamente en composiciones interesantes e improvisaciones inspiradas.
